I- IKINU CHILDREN WITH
DISABILITIES
PROGRAMME
This project was initiated by Fr. Felix Francis
Kauta in Ikinu of Kiambu District, around 30
kms from Nairobi and serves over 250
children with various
degrees of disabilities With the
help of Lilian Foundation, it is able to
assist 52 children in various
special schools in
Kenya.Currently, there five children
living at the home with severe
cerebral
palsy, one with hydrocephalus and
one with severe physical
disabilities.

The home has a
rental house with three bed rooms, with spacious
sitting room, a kitchen, a toilet, water and electricity.
The other children live with their families and are
supported within their
families.

ACTIVITIES
-
The Home runs a dairy cow project
(currently with 6 cows) as a source on
income for the activities of supporting the
children. Volunteers can help with dairy
farming as well as small garden farming.
Volunteers with veterinary skills are also
welcome; nutritionists, and so
on.

The project from time to time holds seminars and workshops
with parents and children to train and empower them.
Volunteer opportunities exist in this
area.

Physiotherapist volunteers to assist in
therapy

Home visits to families of the children, teaching children
with special needs, sports, art, music and so
on.
II. KIGANJO PARISH
PROJECTS
KIGANJO
Catholic Parish is in the outskirts of Nairobi, around 60
kilometers from Nairobi. The church has a variety of
volunteer opportunities. It?s a conducive place for those
who are interested in working outside the hustle and
bustle of city life. Its green scenery is calming, the
climate moderate, and the people friendly. For more

ACTIVITIES:
1.
Teach at nursery school Kiganjo
Nursery), play with children in the nursery and other related
activities, teach language, feeding programme.
2.
There are 3 catholic sponsored
primary schools (Ikuma, Kiamwangi, Thaara Primary Schools) with
various opportunities for volunteer such as teaching, sports,
arts, music and other creative activities can be
initiated.
3.
There are two catholic sponsored
secondary schools (Ikuma and Kiamwangi Secondary Schools),
where opportunities exist for teaching, counselling, sports,
arts, music and so on.
4.
The parish has 4 outstations
(small branches of the church) within reach of parish where
volunteers can work with youth, women, families, children and
so on.
5.
A clinic to be completed in a few
months which needs volunteers such as nurses, nurse aids,
doctors, counsellors, and help with mobile clinics within the
locality.
6.
A variety of possibilities to
work with the youth in the parish ? counselling, short
training, seminars, workshops, outreach activities (sports,
art, music, etc) and so on.
7.
Kiganjo Parish also runs an
outreach programme whereby volunteers can home visits be
involved in home visits in order to understand the life
situations of people, follow up on the progress of families
supported etc.
8.
Assist in creating pen pals for
the children in link with own country to share experiences and
learn each others cultures.
III- ST. STEPHEN?S PREPARATORY
SCHOOL
St. Stephen is a newly established (2008) school in Dagoretti
Corner of Nairobi. It currently includes a baby class, nursery
school and primary school with up to 50
children.
Volunteer opportunities include teaching the children, playing,
sports, arts, languages (English, French, Italian, Spanish)
help in fundraising and any other innovative
activities.
The
school also has an outreach programme working with youth in
income generating activities. Volunteers are welcome to help
in training, workshops, generation of ideas, business plan
development, and so on.
